  • The wonderful mountainous landscapes of Damaraland provide a dramatic backdrop to some of the most underappreciated wildlife regions in Namibia. Additionally, the region is rich in both natural and anthropological history.

Namibia's highest mountain, Brandberg, stands proud against the ancient landscapes of Damaraland. Steeped in important history, the imposing mountain hosts thousands of prehistoric rock paintings and engravings - the oldest in Africa. The Petrified Forest, millions of years old, was declared a National monument in 1950, and helps to highlight the story of this dramatic land.

Despite the near-baron habitat, Damaraland is home to some stunning wildlife. Desert-adapted animals include elephant, zebra, lion, giraffe, and hyena, as well as the critically endangered Black rhino. Dry season helps concentrate the wildlife, but the opportunity to witness these animals in a completely free and unfenced environment is a humbling privilege.
