Located 4 to 5 hours to the southwest of Rwanda, Nyungwe Forest National Park is a vast untouched tropical rainforest and montane forest with a high dense canopy.
Nyungwe became a National Park in 2004 and has in some of the finest biodiversity with over 310 different bird species, hundreds of butterflies and orchids, and over 75 different species of mammals. Immerse yourself in the mahogany forests with giant fern trees all towering above you whilst wild orchids hang off every available branch – bringing brightly coloured birds and insects to visit.
A walk along East Africa’s highest canopy walk with a metal bridge suspended 50 metres above the forest and offers you a very different aspect over the 1,020km² park. There are over 13 species of primate here including the chimpanzee, Grey-cheeked mangabey and Rwenzori colobus and l'Hoest's monkeys.
