  • A family holiday to South Africa needs careful planning and lots to take into consideration when travelling with children, such as things to do, drives not to be too long, child friendly properties and safaris.

We have experienced trips to South Africa with our own children and so we plan and advise based on our own experience. South Africa is hugely child friendly and fun will be had for the whole family. The added bonus on this itinerary is the malaria free game reserve - Kariega Game Reserve.

Highlights

  • Cape Town

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Travelling

Travel on the overnight flight to Cape Town.

    Days 2-5 - Cape Town

    Staying at:  Waterfront Village

After clearing immigration and collecting your luggage, you will be met and shown to the car depot. Make your way to your apartment on the V&A Waterfront. A GPS and driving directions will be provided to assist you along the way. Whilst staying in Cape Town we recommend visiting the iconic Robben Island, Table Mountain (be sure to go up as soon as you are able to), Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Cape Point Nature Reserve, visit the penguins at Boluders Beach and the aquarium at the vibrant V&A Waterfront.

    Days 6-7 - Stellenbosch

    Staying at: Spier Hotel

Today you will drive to the Cape Winelands. Children and adults will enjoy exploring this area. At Spier itself the are Eagle Encounters and a childrens playground - pack up a picnic form the deli and head out for the day. As family you can walk, wine and dine on around Spier.

    Day 8 - Oudtshoorn

Staying at: De Zeekoe Guest Farm & Reserve

After breakfast you will drive along the R62 to Oudtshoorn where you will spend a night. Today's drive is little long but play spot the ostrich on the way. Once at Oudtshoorn, you will have lots of fun - visit Meerkat adventures and watch how the meerkats run all around, explore the Cango Caves where people used to live many years ago and visit an ostrich farm.

  • Days 9-11 - Plettenberg Bay

Staying at: Hog Hollow Country Lodge

This morning you will head to the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay and stay at the wonderful Hog Hollow. Here you will not have the opportunity to laze around! There is so much to do in the area such as visiting Birds of Eden, Monkeyland, zip wire through the Tsitsikamma Forest, cruise the Featherbed Nature Reserve in Knysna and see the monkeys at Monkeyland in Plettenberg Bay.

Days 12-14 - Kariega Private Game Reserve

    Staying at: Kariega Game Reserve

After breakfast you will carry along the Garden Route to Kariega Game Reserve for your malaria free safari experience. Arrive at the lodge around lunchtime so that you are in good time for your afternoon game drive.  Kariega Game Reserve is split into two reserves - a predatory side and non predatory side, this provides great game viewing either way. We really enjoyed our time seeking out the rhinos and giraffe as well as the stop by the hippo pool.

    Day 15 - Departure

After your morning game drive you will drive to Port Elizabeth where you will return your rental car and check in for your flight home to London Heathrow via Johannesburg.
