  • The enchanting Ngorongoro crater formed in the aftermath of a huge volcanic explosion in the Serengeti millions of years ago. Now this UNESCO World Heritage Site is rich with biodiversity and spans 260km2 of grassland, bushland, and montane forest.

The crater is home to a staggering 25,000 (Est) animals. Most of the species of East Africa can be found here, including the "Big Five" - rhinoceros, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo. You can also discover large herds of zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest. To the east, the Ngoitokitok Spring provides a vast swamp area inhabited with hippopotamus and many others. A must for photographers, there are ample opportunities to catch the perfect shot of the animals and birdlife, including crowned cranes, egrets, and fish eagles.

The Ngorongoro is world famous and very popular on the northern circuit of Tanzania. Whilst it is practically impossible to escape the crowds, you can be sure that your visit will involve something spectacular. It is very easy to understand why we flock there in thousands.
