  • On the Northern Circuit, near the city of Arusha, lies Lake Manyara National Park. Intimate in size compared to most parks, Lake Manyara offers a variety of vegetation and wildlife and, perhaps uniquely the rare opportunity to catch sight of one of its tree-climbing lions.

From savannah to evergreen forest and marshlands, this underrated park supports one of the highest biomass densities of larger mammals in the world. Wildebeest, zebra, various gazelles move through the park with giraffe, hippopotamus, and African bush elephant. Predators including lion, leopard, hyena, and cheetah can also be spotted.

Lake Manyara National Park is known for its impressive birdlife. In total, over 390 species of birds have been formally observed in the park, including over 40 species of birds of prey. These include huge flocks of flamingo, Great white pelican, Marabou stork, and Ayre's hawk eagle, palm-nut vulture, and southern ground hornbill.
