  • In the far west of the country lies one of Tanzania’s largest national parks, Katavi. Its isolated location brings smaller visitor numbers when compared to some of its more famous neighbours. But have no doubt that this is a fantastic wildlife destination.

Large herds roam the remote plains of Natavi. Cape buffalos, zebra, wildebeest, giraffes, and elephants are all resident, and hippo and crocodiles can be found alongside the Katuma river. During the dry season, the mudholes that form attract hundreds of hippos!

Naturally, wherever you find large groups of herding animals, predators are close by. Here is no exception. Carnivorous species including lions, cheetahs, hyenas, leopards and wild dogs roam freely throughout Natavi.

Annual visitor numbers here are counted in hundreds, whereas in some of the more famous parks of the region, you would expect over one hundred thousand. The untouched nature of Natavi is hard to explain in comparison, but those who make the journey, will spend their lifetime trying their best to do so!
