On the Indian Ocean coastline lies Dar Es Salaam, the largest city in East Africa and Tanzania's richest. This bustling metropolis sat at the foot of Mt Meru also boasts dramatic views of Mt Kilimanjaro, and is drenched with culture and a vibrant pulse.
For those with an interest in history, there are several respected museums in the area. The National Museum is dedicated to the country's history, including some incredible example of early hominins found in the region. The Makumbusho Cultural Centre & Village Museum demonstrates the various ethnic groups that cultivated the area, with 16 variations of traditional huts.
With beaches in the north (Msasani) and the south (Kigamboni), Dar has a softer side. There are also popular trip available to the Dar es Salaam Marine reserve - nine uninhabited islands with protected tropical ecosystems, coral reefs, mangroves and seagrass beds.
With over 4 million people, Dar has rich and vibrant culture. Whether seeking peace and quiet with languid days on white sands, cultural experiences, of exciting nightlife, Dar has it all.
