  • Tsavo National Park (East and West) is one the oldest parks in Kenya, opening in 1948. In total the combined size of both parks is almost 22,000km2 - the largest in Kenya, and one of the largest in the world.  Due to its sheer scale, there is plenty of wildlife to be found, although more ground to cover.

In the East, as one the largest game reserves in the world, the undeveloped wilderness plains are home to an incredible number of animals. The Tsavo lions are famous and have even been spotted without manes, but the park also boasts populations of Cape buffalo, cheetah, gazelle, zebra, elephant, giraffe, hyena (both striped and spotted), wildcats, black rhino, kudu, monkeys, mongoose, warthog, the list goes on and on. Geological features are also worth noting. Lugard's falls present a rare opprtunity for visitors to step away from their vehicles and experience the various volcanic rock patterns in addition to the rapids and falls themselves. Mudana Rock is an isolated rock hill stretching over 1.6km, that provides an excellent vantage point.

Tsavo West National Park also benefits from diverse wildlife, including hippopotamus, black rhinoceros, and Cape buffalo. The terrain is more mountainous than the East, and the wetter climate provides excellent opportunity to enjoy birdlife in many of the swamps, lakes and springs.
