​Laikipia

North-east of the Great Rift Valley and reaching to the slopes of Mt Kenya, the plains of the Laikipia plateau provide ample opportunity to experience the large mammals that are synonymous with an African safari experience. 

Laikipia has a strong connection with conversation and the stability of the animal population is testament to success of the various initiatives. Over half of the Kenyan rhino population live in Laikipa, and there a number of ranches that operate breeding sanctuaries for both black and white rhino - many of which are run by local tribespeople. You will find all of the big five here, and in general wildlife viewing is excellent with large numbers of Grevy's Zebra (with 70% of the world's population).

One of Laikipia's strongest reasons to visit is the visitor numbers. Whilst it is becoming more popular, the smaller visitor numbers coupled with its scale means that you will not encounter large crowds.
