Zambia safari informationZambia Safari
Zambia is the home of the modern walking safari and without doubt offers some of Africa's best traditional walking safaris, particularly in the Luangwa Valley. The modern-day "walking safari" is a loose term used to describe a variety of safari activities including:
"Wilderness trails",
"Backed up" walking safaris and
“Trails from fixed bases” (tented camps, seasonal bushcamps and lodges)
In Zambia all guides have to be properly trained and are regulated. You will be escorted by a qualified guide who will enhance your safari and bush experience. All Zambian National Parks allow night drives, which enable you to view different nocturnal animals like the leopard and the porcupine.
The following has been included for your information - please contact one of our specialists to discuss the options that are available to you.
South Luangwa National Park
This is one of Zambia’s top parks which offers big game safaris in 4x4 vehicles, as well as walking safaris. It is recommended that you spend at least 5 to 7 days in at least two of the camps and perhaps one night in Luangwa’s tiny bush camp.
Kafue National Park
The Kafue National Park is the largest park in Zambia and because of the location it is cooler. It is less developed compared to some of the other camps but has cheetah which are rarely seen elsewhere. The Kafue’s Busanga Plains should not be missed.
Lower Zambezi National Park
The Lower Zambezi National Park runs adjacent to the mighty Zambezi River. Here you can view big game against a beautiful mountain backdrop. There are various exciting things to do including boat trips, Tiger Fish fishing, walking safaris and canoeing. This Park is one of the closest to Lusaka - the capital of Zambia.
Livingstone & the Victoria Falls
The Victoria falls in Livingstone are one of the great wonders of the world and offer a variety of exceptional hotels and lovely lodges on the banks of the Zambezi.
North Luangwa National Park
This is a camp that focuses on walking safaris. It has some tiny bush camps and is a partial wilderness area. Even getting to the camp is an adventure, it can take 6 hours by vehicle or alternatively you can fly. Definitely a destination for experienced safari addicts.
Northern Zambia
Northern Zambia has some of the least visited camps that are more suited to the experienced safari traveller. These camps include Shiwa Ng'andu, Nchila Wildlife Reserve and Mutinondo Wilderness Area - as well as Kasanka National Park and the Bangweulu Wetlands.
Lusaka area
Lusaka is the capital of Zambia, it is good for an overnight stop should you intend to catch a early morning flight back home.
Liuwa Plain National Park
Liuwa Plain National Park is a vast grass covered plain in the extreme west of Zambia. Here it is possible to see huge herds of wildebeest that gather on the vast plains every year for their “Migration”.

Zambia Safari Information
Questions we are often asked in preparing for a safari in Zambia.
How do we get around on a Zambia safari?
Due to the area and the size of some of the parks the best way to get from park to park is by light aircraft.
Most of the camps in the parks are small and as a result can tailor-make your stay.
What type of Safari do I choose - a walking or driving safari?
Most camps offer both walking and 4x4 safaris. Where the camp is close to the river you can enjoy boat safaris, canoeing and fishing. Luangwa camp only offers walking safaris
What is a walking safari like in Zambia ?
You will find a walking safari an exhilarating and amazing experience. You will start your walk with a guide, an armed game scout and normally a tea-bearer carrying refreshments. Groups are normally small with a maximum of seven.
A walking safari’s is not route march - it is at a sedate and comfortable pace. The guide will often stop to point out interesting facts about the area and it's flora and fauna.
As the ground that you will be walking on can be uneven it is recommended that you wear comfortable and sturdy hiking boots. Clothing should be neutral coloured.
