Namibia Self Drives - Visions of Namibia

20 day tour includes Kalahari Desert, Keetmanshoop, Fish River Canyon, Luderitz, Sossusvlei, Cape Cross and Etosha.

Day 1 Windhoek - collect car from Windhoek airport and drive to your hotel in Windhoek. Overnight and breakfast: Hilltop House or similar

Day 2 & 3 Kalahari - a three hour drive takes you to the Kalahari Desert and the Intu Afrika Game Reserve. Activities include guided game drives and a fascinating walk with local Bushmen to learn about their history and desert survival skills. Overnight and full Board: Zebra lodge or similar

Day 4 Keetmanshoop - travel via Mariental to the Quiver Tree Forest and Giant’s Playground where large boulders of dolerite are stacked upon each other as if a giant had just discarded them. Continue on towards Keetmanshoop for your overnight stay. Overnight and breakfast: Bird’s Mansion Hotel or similar

Day 5 & 6 Fish River Canyon - drive south to Canon Lodge located just 20 km from the main viewpoint over Fish River Canyon. This lodge has thatched bungalows built of natural stone that are located between tall weather beaten granite boulders. The restored old farmhouse offers traditional Namibian food and awe-inspiring views of the Canyon’s landscape. Local activities include horse riding, guided walks, sundowner drives and hiking. Day 7 Luderitz - onwards to the coastal town of Luderitz which was the first German settlement in Namibia and is home to colonies of aquatic birds, seals, penguins and dolphins. Overnight and breakfast: Nest Hotel or similar

Day 8 & 9 Sossusvlei - drive north through the Namib Desert to Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei. Your lodge consists of half canvas covered bungalows reminiscent of Bedouin tents. This unique resort lies amongst multi-coloured sand dunes and mountain ranges. Local activities include excursions to Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon, nature drives, hot air ballooning and dune climbing. Dinner, overnight and breakfast: Sossusvlei Lodge or similar

Day 10 & 11 Swakopmund - this premier resort has well preserved German colonial buildings, lush lawns and palm trees. Visit Walvis Bay, an important wetland area for coastal birds, and take an optional cruise to Pelican Point seal colony viewing dolphins on the way. Overnight and breakfast: Hansa Hotel or similar

Day 12 & 13 Cape Cross - travel via Henties Bay to the Cape Cross Seal Reserve, which is home to a large breeding colony of Cape Fur Seals. Dinner, overnight and breakfast: Cape Cross Lodge or similar

Day 14 & 15 Twyfelfontein - drive onwards past the Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain and view stone-age rock art, the dolerite pillars of the Organ Pipes and the blackened Burnt Mountain. Your impressive lodge of rock and thatch offers nature drive, guided hikes and excursions visiting rock engraving sites. Dinner, overnight and breakfast: Twyfelfontein Lodge or similar

Day 16 Etosha - journey via Khorixas to see the Petrified Forest and its giant tree trunks, some in excess of 200 million years old. Continue to your camp through Etosha National Park viewing numerous game en route. Overnight and room only: Namutoni Restcamp or similar

Day 17 & 18 Etosha - your next stop is at Mokuti Lodge, which is located in a 4000 hectare game park on the edge of Etosha National Park. It has thatched chalets set in exotic gardens and there is a boma for dining under the stars. Activities include walking, horse riding and game drives in open safari vehicles. Overnight and breakfast: Mokuti Lodge or similar

Day 19 Windhoek - return to Windhoek for a relaxing final night. Overnight and breakfast: Hilltop House or similar

Day 20 - return your car to Windhoek Airport where your journey ends.

Prices are from £2,425 per person including meals as shown and carhire. This itinerary can be reduced for those with less time.
