TANZANIA SAFARI HOLIDAYS
You are in Home>> Tanzania
Tanzania is best known for its Safaris, the Swahili word for 'journey'. It has more land devoted to national parks and game reserves than any other wildlife destination and historically has been one of the most pro active nations in setting aside land for conservation. With its superb game viewing and nearby tropical islands, it is an ideal destination to combine both a Tanzania safari and beach holiday.
This unique country has many wonders including Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, plus the rich game sanctuaries of the Serengeti, Selous, Ruaha and the Marine Park of Mafia Island. During May and June, you will see the annual migration of vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle trekking across the Serengeti Plains, an awe-inspiring spectacle. This continual quest for food takes them across the border into Kenya for two months only to return back on the Serengeti Plains later in the year where they foal and breed. Equally inspiring is the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest unbroken crater in the world, which forms a vast natural amphitheatre and is home to huge numbers of animals. Other unique sights are the tree-climbing lions of Lake Manyara National Park, which is also home to large herds of elephant, hippo and buffalo along with over 400 bird species. Selous Game Reserve in the southern region of Tanzania is the largest conservancy in Africa. Watered by the Rufiji River with its hippo and outsized crocodile, it is a haven for the endangered wild dog as well as a rich variety of wildlife and birdlife. The reserve offers excellent game viewing all year round, however the safari lodges are only accessible by light aircraft. After the excitement of a safari in Tanzania, take time to unwind on a palm-fringed beach. The country is fringed to the east by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and the idyllic islands of Zanzibar and Pemba.
This unique destination has much to offer;
- Snorkel on the coral reefs off Zanzibar
- Count Wildebeest as they traverse the Serengeti on the annual migration
- Look down from the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and try to spot an elephant 600 metres below.
- Enjoy a seafood feast at the night food market in Stone Town, Zanzibar
- Cruise down the Rufiji River, in the Selous spotting game on the river banks.
- Gaze at the snow capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. It can't be that hard to climb,
can it?!
