Namibia Holidays

You are in  Home>>Namibia

Sossusvlei, Namibia

From the coastal Namib Desert to the tropical forests and woodland savannahs of Caprivi and Kavango, a Namibia holiday has an amazing variety of scenery and experiences to offer visitors.

Due to the variety of early settlers, the sparse population of Namibia is made up of over 11 different ethnic groups who all live harmoniously together on the arid landscape. The distinctive Himba people of Damaraland, the colourful Herero with their long layered skirts and distinctive hats, and to the east, the San Bushmen of the Kalahari.

Due to Namibia's vast desert terrain, a Namibia safari is quite different from any other. Etosha National Park with its excellent road system is the most popular area for a self drive safari. Roughly the size of Switzerland, Etosha has a vast dry salt pan at its centre with a number of waterholes strategically placed throughout the park.  There is one main circular route with satellite roads that lead off to waterholes. It is possible to join one of the guided game drives that are on offer from the Parks Office, or if you are staying at a Lodge outside of the Park, they will usually offer at least one drive into Etosha each day, as well as a drive on their own reserve.

Distances in this vast country are not to be under estimated, but the roads are generally good and well sign posted, making a Namibia self drive holiday an easy, safe option.

Things to do on a Namibia Holiday include:

  • Climb one of the giant red dunes at Sesriem or hike the rugged canyons of coloured rock at Fish River Canyon
  • Track a Black Rhino on foot in Damaraland
  • Decipher the carved rock art of Twyfelfontein
  • Come face to face with a Cheetah at the AfriCat Foundation
  • Explore the sand dunes by Quad Bike
  • Spot a Black Faced Impala, uniquely found in Etosha National Park.
  • See the bleached whale bones and ship hulls of the Skeleton Coast National Park.

Here is our guide to Namibia's National Parks and Reserves which we hope will assist you in planning your Namibia holiday. Alternatively, call us on 0845 345 0065 to speak to one of our Namibia Holiday experts.
