Botswana Lodges - Meno a Kwena - Kalahari Salt Pans

The ultimate luxury accommodation of a Botswana safari is watching endless herds of wildlife drinking at the waterhole from a canvas tent. Or a shower in full view of the setting sun as the first roar of a lion echoes through the riverbed below. It is these luxuries that enhance the authentic safari tented camp comforts of home.

At Meno a Kwena you will find traditional safari tents with permanent fixtures, built by local craftspeople, with locally collected materials. There are, of course, the luxuries of flush toilets and a natural Boteti rock pool to wallow in on hot summer days. Each tent is set on the edge of the Boteti River bank.

A hundred feet below camp is the waterhole that attracts thousands of animals during the dry season. A lot of emphasis in the camp experience is placed on the theatre view from camp, no matter where you stand you may watch the scenes played out, whether from the plunge pool, your tents, the verandas, or the bathrooms.

The excellent location of Meno A Kwena Tented Camp provides you with many opportunities to experience numerous safari excursions, these include Makgadikgadi & Nxai Pans National Parks, and Central Kalahari Game Reserve.

The migratory water dependant zebra and wildebeest herds concentrate along the Boteti River during the dry winter months (June to November), obviously this is determined by the rains, and water availability in the saltpans.

The deep Boteti River gorge is a unique environment, by Botswana standards, of riverine habitat in the middle of the dry Kalahari. This creates a rich diversity of wildlife in a very concentrated area. Some of Botswana’s most impressive wildlife concentrations occur along the riverbed during the dry season, including the large herds of zebra and wildebeest, antelope, elephant, white rhino, predators, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, many bird species, and spectacular views.

The Makgadikgadi Pans National Park covers a vast area from the Boteti River, through its interior of scrublands, palm belt and grasslands to the extraordinary saltpans to the east. The interior of the park supports desert adapted wildlife – oryx, springbok, ostrich, jackal, Meerkats, to name some of the common species. During the wet summer months (November to June), the zebra and wildebeest form impressive herds in the open grass plains and pans.
