Day 2
Cycle Safari & Predator Drive A sunrise cycle safari, with impressive
views and the opportunity to watch the games wake up in their natural
environment is an excellent way to start the day. After lunch discover
Mashatu's felines with cat expert, Villiers Steyn on a predator drive. Track
down and follow these elusive animals with advanced telemetry equipment, whilst
the sun sets over the African bush. Learn more about the study, as well as the
ecology and behaviour of all the large predator species that call Mashatu home.
This is an opportunity to spend the afternoon and early evening hours with one
of the world's most attractive cats, whilst at the same time funding a project,
which is of great importance to leopard conservation.
Day 3
Walking Safari & Sleep Out 1 day guided walking safari where you can
experience the many secrets of the bush only seen on foot. This is your chance
to experience Wilderness camping, Dome tents and bucket showers. In the evening
relax by an open fire as your dinner is prepared.
Day 4 Ivory
Drive & Cycle Safari Mashatu has the largest free roaming, flourishing
elephant population on private land in Southern Africa. Join resident elephant
specialist and researcher, Jeanetta Selier, on a morning drive to learn more
about these amazing creatures. Learn how to identify, as well as age and sex the
different herds, which Jeanetta has come to know so well over the years. Getting
right up close and personal with these fascinating pachyderms enables guests to
learn more about their behaviour, their complex social structure and their
communication skills.
After lunch join a mountain bike safari and see the
bush from a completely different perspective. The experienced rangers will
accompany you as you pedal your way along ancient elephant paths. The
exhilaration of cycling amongst the ''Giants of Mashatu' is awesome and a
lifetime experience.
Day 5 Cycle Safari & Ancient
Ruins Another opportunity to join a mountain bike safari and spot more
game. In the afternoon visit the Mmamagwa ruins on the Motloutse River. Here
you can explore ancient civilisations long forgotten by modern man and relive
this bygone era. These trips will include a visit to Solomon's Wall, exploration
of the archaeological site, and a walk to the top of Mmamakwa Hill. Pottery,
beads and stonewalls dating back a thousand years are visible at the site. These
ruins, only available to guests staying at Mashatu Game Reserve are of the same
dynasty as the famous Mapungubwe Ruins, the World Heritage Site in South Africa,
where the sacred Golden Rhino was discovered. This evening sleep on camp
beds under the stars.
