Garden Route Lodges - Kariega Game Reserve - Kenton - on - Sea
This malaria-free "Big-5" private game reserve is situated in the heart of the Eastern Cape '1820 Settler Country' and incorporates the picturesque Kariega and Bushman’s Rivers. It is only 10 minutes from Kenton-on-sea and 80 minutes from Port Elizabeth. With it's combination of 'Big-5' game viewing, a wide variety of fauna, flora, birdlife and a landscape that spans across 5 different eco systems. Kareiga offers something truly unique. There are several Lodges on the reserve,Main Lodge has been expertly blended with the surrounding bush to create a natural looking environment. Accommodation is in air-conditioned log chalets with en-suite bedrooms and large private viewing decks. Meals are served up at the main building, and there is an outdoor boma eating area and a swimming pool. Ukhozi Lodge truly captures the romance and intimacy of Africa. Nestled in the bush, the 10 superbly appointed air-conditioned luxury suites are crafted from logs, each with a private plunge pool and deck offering panoramic views of the valley. Ukhozi Lodge boasts unique African-style lounges, a restaurant and boma with an outdoor pool. Here, guests can unwind in front of warm log fires, enjoy sumptuous cuisine or simply share experiences of the African bush. The reserve is divided into 2 areas. The predator free area (where Main Lodge and Ukhozi Lodge are located) offers guests a chance to get really close to all types of animals from white rhino and antelopes to giraffes. It also offers guests the opportunity to explore on mountain bikes, or hike into the reserve. The Kariega River runs along the border of this section and guests can canoe with a guide. The other part of the reserve is home to the Lions and Elephant, in much more rugged terrain. Game drives can be very exciting as you track the animals. Generally game drives are split with a morning drive on one side and then the second drive of the day, on the other side. Kariega is well suited for families, with lots of activities and a chance to get really close to animals on the non predator side. |
