Grande Roche is situated in the scenic town of Paarl in the heart of the Cape Winelands. There is much to explore in this historic town in the heart of the Winelands and the Mediterranean climate offers ideal weather conditions for outdoor activities.
Paarl is also the perfect base for excursions to the world class city of Cape Town and the many attractions of the Cape Peninsula, for exploring the rugged West Coast or the whale watching look-outs of the Hermanus coastline.
Grande Roche is a gracious restored 18th century Manor Estate centred on a working vineyard. Set on the slopes of the lush Paarl Valley, the estate overlooks picturesque vineyards and rugged mountains. The recently renovated Hotel consists of 15 guest rooms and 2 restaurants with an impressive array of culinary accolades to its name.
The rooms are situated in the restored outbuilding, affording guest complete privacy. All are equipped with luxurious extras typical of a five star establishment, such as under floor heating, a mini bar, mobile office facilities, a separate bath and shower facility and two wash basins. Suites are all individually decorated and come in a variety of sizes, from duplex suites suitable to families through to a Honeymoon suite complete with jacuzzi and private roof terrace. There are two rooms which have been specially adapted to cater for disabled guests.
Bosmans is the award-winning restaurant with an international team of chefs dedicated to delighting the culinary senses. Housed in the renovated Cape Dutch manor house built in 1707, the restaurant offers Gourmet contemporary French cuisine along with an impressively extensive wine list. The restaurant is open thurs-sunday and in summer, dining is outdoors on the terrace with views across the valley.
With its superbly stocked cellar with close on 300 vintage wines, in addition to more than 6500 bottles, this is Cape wine country at its best. The hotel epitomises five-star grandeur with exceptional service and attention to detail
The second Bistro resrtaurant, Allegor is open throughout the week and serves breakfast, lunch and light snacks throughout the day, as well as being open for dinner. Located next to the pool, visitors can enjoy meals poolside.
The estate's facilities are extensive. For sports fans there are floodlit tennis courts, two swimming pools and a gymnasium as well as nearby golf courses, hiking and horse riding trails. For those more interested in pampering than physical exertion, take your pick of a massage parlour, hair salon, sauna or steam bath.
In our opinion..a little out of the way for most visitors but for anyone with an interest in gourmet food and wine, a stay here is a must. Quite a formal atmosphere throughout the hotel, not really suited to families.
