IMAGINE THE FREEDOM OF A BOTSWANA HOLIDAY
Our Botswana holidays offer the opportunity to view spectacular wildlife ranging from the smallest reed frog to the tallest giraffe. Whilst in the wetlands you’ll discover more species of birds than you ever knew existed. Explore the diverse cultures of its people and nature at its best. Here is a guide to the national parks and reserves that will assist you in planning your Botswana holiday.
Chobe National Park This is an old safari area. Livingstone visited it in the 1850s, as have countless big-game hunters since. A beautiful grassland reserve that has gained international fame for its abundant elephant and buffalo populations that congregate in herds of mammoth proportions. With an estimated population of 40,000 to 60,000 elephants, these gentle giants are constant companions. In the dry season the Chobe River is home to thousands of elephants that line the banks and cross the water. During this period boat trips provide excellent photographic opportunities.
Okavango Delta This extensive inland river delta is one of the most pleasurable sites on the continent for a safari. Travel is typically by small boats or even a dugout canoe which provide a level of tranquillity that is difficult to attain in a landrover. The Okavango Delta is home to elephant, zebra, giraffe, and other large game species as well as an abundance of birds and plant life. Hippos and crocodiles are quite common in Okavango Delta, as one might expect in Botswana holiday. The fishing is also excellent, particularly in the north western section where you can expect to catch tiger fish, large mouth bream, tilapia and nembewe (olive bream).
Moremi Reserve Located in the north eastern portion of the Okavango Delta, Moremi combines the attractions of the delta with more solid terrain. The result is an outstanding reserve that includes a wide variety of ecosystems and a commensurate diversity of wildlife. The Moremi Game Reserve encompasses a large area of the Delta's wetlands and the main dry peninsula that juts into the Delta, known as the Mopane Tongue. As one of the finest areas for wildlife that you could chose for a Botswana holiday, Moremi protects the core of the Okavango’s Delta, and several safari camps are built within it. However, most of the Okavango's small safari camps and wildlife lodges lay outside Moremi – in their own private wildlife reserves.

Savuti Game Reserve The Savuti Game Reserve is situated in the south western part of the Chobe National Park. Savute is almost desert-like with its harsh dry landscape under the heat of the sun, hot sand and elephants in the waiting to quench their thirst at water holes.
Kwando-Linyanti area There are four large private reserves (Kwando, Selinda, Linyanti and Chobe Enclave) beside the Kwando-Linyanti river system, which protect high concentrations of wildlife. Like the exclusive safari reserves around the Okavango Delta, these offer more remote, private safaris. Walking and night drives are both allowed, as well as off-road driving (which makes finding predators much easier).
Central Kalahari Game Reserve The ultimate Botswana holiday for those who prefer a more remote safari destination, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve covers over 50,000km², most of which is difficult to access. The stunning dune valleys attract thousands of gemsbok and springbok that graze on the verdant vegetation. Other residents of the area include herds of wildebeest, warthog, wild dog, cheetah and the famous Kalahari's black-maned lions not forgetting ostrich and giraffe. Leopard and brown hyena are around this area although they are rarely seen.
Makgadikgadi Salt Pans Lying southeast of the Okavango Delta and surrounded by the Kalahari Desert - Makgadikgadi is technically not a single pan but many pans with sandy desert in between, the largest being the Sua (Sowa), Ntwetwe and Nxai Pans. We recommend visiting the Pans in both the dry and wet season so that you can witness the spectacular appearance of the pans at their driest when mirages are created and then the wet season brings the migration of the zebra and wildebeest.
